Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives the public right of access to information the Trust produces in the course of its work.

Schools have a responsibility to offer guidance and support to individuals seeking information. Requesters have the right to know whether the school possesses the requested information (the school must confirm or deny), except where certain exemptions apply.

Although FOI presumes openness, it recognises the need to protect sensitive information in certain circumstances. There are some exemptions to the types of information that can be requested under the act, and should an exemption apply, we will write and tell you which exemption is being applied and why. For more information regarding FOI please visit the Information Commissioner's website.

Subject Access Requests

Individuals have the right to ask to see a copy of any information held about them by the Trust. This is known as a Subject Access Request (SAR).

In some cases, the organisation may need to ask for proof of identification before the request can be processed. The organisation will inform the individual if it needs to verify their identity and the documents it requires.

The organisation will normally respond to a request within a period of one month from the date it is received. In some cases, such as where the organisation processes large amounts of the individual's data, it may respond within three months of the date the request is received. The organisation will write to the individual within one month of receiving the original request to tell them if this is the case.

For more information, please refer to the Trust’s Data Protection Policy.

How do I make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request or Subject Access Request (SAR)?

Requests should be in writing (letter or email) and should include the requestor's name and correspondence address and a detailed description of the information you are wanting (including dates if relevant) and any preference for the format of receiving the information. If it is relating to one of the Trust’s schools please specify which school.

Requests should be sent to admin@drapers-schools.com

Please include 'FOI request' or 'SAR' in the title of your email/letter.
