Sixth Form Scientists achieve 3rd place in prestigious national science competition

Three Year 12 students from Drapers' Academy, Rachel Fowobi-Imoru, Khadeeja Haider Roy and Kai Wellington recently competed in the Royal Society of Chemistry Schools’ Analyst Competition, hosted at our co-sponsor, Queen Mary University of London. The trio competed superbly and achieved third place in the South East regional heat.
The competition is open to all Year 12 students across the country who are studying Chemistry at AS level. The students were set the challenging task of identifying the oxygen content in a washing powder. This challenge required unfamiliar skills such as UV spectroscopy and the use of the Beer-Lambert law, which is commonly taught in a degree setting.
The students worked exceedingly hard beating several prestigious independent schools to finish in third place.
